Complete guide to Mother's Day and Father's Day with personalised gifts

Hello friends of drawing and illustration!

Every year we have the opportunity to celebrate two of the most important people in our lives: our parents. In fact, Mother's Day and Father's Day are a time for us all to express our gratitude and love to these people, who play such a crucial role in our lives. So what better way to make these moments even more special and make them the best possible memories than with fully personalised gifts that reflect the uniqueness of our bond?

Mother's Day: Tradition, Origins and Meaning

More than just a day in the calendar, Mother's Day is a sincere and profound tribute to motherhood and unconditional love. Its origins date back to ancient times, when various cultures celebrated the mother goddesses, symbols of fertility and maternal protection. In Greece, the goddess Rhea, mother of the gods, was celebrated, and in Rome Cybele, goddess of fertility. As was often the case in ancient times, these celebrations were accompanied by rituals during which offerings were made in thanksgiving to the goddesses in question.

Of course, traditions evolved over time to arrive at the festival we all know today. In France, it was in the early 20th century that a movement to recognise the crucial role of mothers gained popularity. Since then, Mother's Day has been celebrated every year on the last Sunday in May or the first Sunday in June, with the custom of a small gift.

Father's Day: Recognition and Appreciation

Like Mother's Day, Father's Day is a special day dedicated to recognising father figures. The history of Father's Day is much more recent, but its importance is just as great. It celebrates fathers, stepfathers and grandfathers for their presence, support and love. Father's Day originated in the United States in 1909, when Sonora Smart Dodd called for a day to be dedicated to recognising fathers for their role in the family, just like mothers. Her aim was to pay tribute to her own widowed father, who had raised her and her five brothers and sisters. In France, it wasn't until the post-war period that Father's Day began to appear, and was finally made official in 1952, with the aim of highlighting the important role played by fathers in the family and rebuilding family ties. Since then, Father's Day has been celebrated every third Sunday in June, with a small gift as part of the custom.
